HGP again produced the Kyoto Prize Symposium Gala, which annually serves as the distinguished opening event for a week of presentations and workshops by three Kyoto Prize Laureates, world-class leaders in technology, science and the arts.  This year’s Kyoto Prize was bestowed on Dr. Robert Langer for his innovative targeted drug-delivery systems, Dr. Edward Witten for his dramatic evolution in superstring theory, and 90-year-old “National Living Treasure of Japan” Ms. Fukumi Shimura.  The program also presented six college scholarship winners from San Diego and Tijuana.

In honor of the 30th Anniversary of the Kyoto Prize, the Gala featured award-winning artists who commemorated musical milestones with their performances of selections from Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue (90 years), Woodstock (45 years), and The Beatles’ U.S. “Invasion” and The Sound of Music (each 50 years).
