Project:

University Leadership Forum

Challenge:

Create a unique environment to engender high-level, decision-making, engaged discussion among 100 academic and community leaders for a first-time event in a challenging space.

HGP designed an “inner sanctum” with attendees sharing the focus with presenters. Custom-built curved wood walls conveyed warmth and sophistication, and comfortable armchairs offered a sense of intimacy for easy conversation. A low stage allowed presenters to easily step off and on to engage with the audience.  All AV elements were strategically designed to be low profile for this high profile event.

HGP provided creative, strategic and project management services including room and set design, event planning, presenter coaching and direction, stage management, and supervision of all production elements including lighting, audio, video, staging and labor.

We were proud to play a part in this high-touch, high-tech event for a world-class university known for its groundbreaking discoveries and positive global impact.

Project:

JCC Maccabi Games Opening Ceremonies at Cox Arena, San Diego

Audience:

8,000 teen athletes, coaches, families and community supporters

Challenge:

Conceive, design and produce the Opening Ceremonies of the JCC Maccabi Games with a limited budget but enormous expectations

This event kicked off a week-long athletic competition for 2,000 teens and their coaches from throughout the U.S., Mexico and Israel.  HGP’s creative throughline “for, by and about the teens” included audience participation, a Munich 11 Olympic athletes tribute, videos, torch lighting, a parade of 2,000 athletes in 44 delegations, and a “Reach the Beach” themed production number featuring 75 young performers, giant costumed sea creatures, skateboarders and stunt bikers.

With virtually no rehearsal and very limited load-in time, the year of preplanning and “paper tech” rehearsals with all departments helped us execute an event that wowed from start to finish.  Our reward:  inspired kids and “Best ever!” kudos from those who previously attended this event in other cities.

"Opening ceremonies at San Diego State’s Cox Arena were attended by over 8,000, making it without a doubt the single largest attended event by the Jewish community in San Diego history."

Project:

BODIES THE EXHIBITION

Audience:

250,000 attendees

With an emphasis on the “special” in “special events”, HGP was engaged to manage the San Diego presentation of the internationally-acclaimed BODIES THE EXHIBITION. Our responsibilities included transforming an empty department store into a first-class museum space, hiring and supervision of all personnel (operations, box office, education, retail and maintenance), all business aspects, and helping to market and promote the blockbuster event which attracted more than 250,000 visitors during its year-long run.
